9 Westchester Brewers Collab on a New Summer Ale !
Brewers from Run & Hide, Captain Lawrence, Soul, Alternative Medicine, Yonkers, Simple Motive, Marlowe Ales, Wolf & Warrior, and 18th Ward all enter a “room.”
That’s not a setup for a longform joke. And although many laughs were shared that brew-day morning — over several beers, of course — the punchline, a.k.a. the goal here, is camaraderie.
Spearheaded by Tim Shanley, brewer and owner of Port Chester’s Run & Hide Brewing Co., the beer collaboration that’s going to result in a summer wheat ale, came about from a few reasons combined.

Tim Shanley has long been a beer nerd, and he’ll tell you flat out that it’s in his blood. “I’m Irish!” he says. But the beer that got him into brewing after one taste was a popular Belgian farmhouse ale. “A buddy of mine came back from Belgium, and that’s when I first had Saison Dupont,” he says. “I was 18 then, and oh my god! I couldn’t buy it, so I started brewing Belgian style beers. I was always into fermentation and preservation, whether that’s fermenting pickles or curing meats. I was fascinated by old world methods that Italians, Germans, and Europeans as a whole did stuff like that because they didn’t have refrigeration.”
Shanley — a certified Advanced Cicerone — kept brewing as a hobby and he carried over his love of craft beer as co-owner of Coals Pizza where he prided himself in curating a stellar beer list.
Run & Hide Brewing Co. Is a Go-To Microbrewery in Port Chester
The Port Chester microbrewery opened in August after a series of COVID-related delays, with the beer temporarily being made at other breweries (Crossroads Brewing in Catskill and at Lock City in Stamford). There are six taps, featuring five of Shanley’s beers, in addition to a rotating tap that dispenses rosé and other wines. His core beers will include a Pilsner called Stick with Grandma and a variety of IPAs, such as Larry’s Liquid Love and Your Mom’s Best Friend. A full bar with cocktails and spirits is also planned.
